The year is 2020 and social media is more powerful than ever. I am lucky enough to have grown up in a time where I have seen social media evolve into the powerhouse and business tool it is today. It started as innocent status updates to an online wall to then being able to connect with family and friends everywhere to even sharing our minute-by-minute daily whereabouts. Today, I see people using social media to further their platform and broaden their audience reach. Some are able to make a living by being these “social media influencers”. We can further our own brand by creating this online presence for others to find us and connect with. Along with the different uses of social media, each platform has its own “type” of content and it brings a different feel to your postings.
Each platform is so very different, and they allow us to showcase the many facets of who we are through a screen. For example, Twitter is not only where I get daily news and local city updates, but I can also find some pretty hilarious content and stay up to date with the current meme trends. Instagram is my life in picture form. I can share any achievement earned, an honor received, or a leadership position gained. I can share my day to day work life, any fun musings that occur throughout the day and fun events I get to attend. I occasionally like to share pictures of my oh-so aesthetically pleasing breakfast or the sunset as I walk my dog. LinkedIn is my final, most professional form; my literal online resume if you will. Put them together and you have me, or rather, the me I have curated my social media platforms to be.
It’s a dangerous, double-edged sword and it’s true what people say: you never know what’s going on behind the screen. Of course, we tend to only post the lightest and brightest moments of our day. However, social media does allow us to get personal, share struggles and know that there’s a community out there to lean on. No matter what way you spin it, social media is a fascinating and quickly evolving tool and can be used in so many ways. It’s growing each day and leaves us wondering of the possibilities that lie ahead.
I have rounded up four Miami-native boss ladies from all ages and stages of life to share with you their perspective on the power of using social media to build your brand.
My experience with social media goes all the way back to middle school. I remember the MySpace crazy and Facebook frenzy. It’s pretty cool to look back and see the growth these platforms have come to and how we, the users, have been a driving force of this growth. Over time, my experience with social media has changed with the times but in terms of building my brand or a company’s brand, for example, I think using social media is so important for overall growth and success. Everyone is using it, so get on it if you haven’t already!
I consider myself to be on the newbie side of social media. Most of my learning and knowledge on the topic has come from my experience within my job. I have seen the positive effects of using social media within my company and they reach we can attain with content creation and strategic marketing. I’m still working on my personal accounts but especially during these crazy times we’re living in, it has shown me the power social media and its users have on the world.
Social media for branding is vital for any company. Whether you’re trying to establish yourself or help your company’s platform grow, social media is the way to go. My tips for success? Consistent posting and finding your niche as early on as you can. with so many people using social media on a daily basis, you want to push out content that’s really going to connect with people to ensure they’ll come back to you for more again and again. There’s so much already put there so give them a reason to come back to you.
When it comes to social media there are so many ways to use it, too many it seems at times. It can get overwhelming but within my position, I have learned how to use social media to continuously build our brand image. At Taudrey we don’t just sell jewelry, each piece has a meaning and a story behind it. We have taken that concept and fused it to create our company’s motto – make it personal – and social media allows us to do just that. We use our platform as an opportunity to share new pieces and current promotions. We can share how we’re wearing or styling our jewelry. We get personal on our weekly live chats with me and the owner, Tiffany to allow live communication and interaction with our girls. In these last few weeks, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have even been able to use our platform in a positive way and hope to be a source of joy during these otherwise difficult times.
So I leave you with this, how are you going to use social media? its a broad and daunting question but it’s no challenge you can achieve with some thinking and planning. As with anything in life you get out of it what you put into it. So start small and thing of the bigger picture, ensuring each decision and post along the way always adheres to that original goal or intention. Social media and it’s possibilities are endless so get out there and have fun with it!
